Oh yes my Dears, another awards show, another chance for me to critique the fashion choices of the world’s most beautiful people. What am I wearing as I write this? A pair of black sweat pants and an Eddie Bauer t-shirt. I did shower today so that means I am feeling well-groomed enough to render my opinion. Here we go:
Metallics were a trend and as usual, there were lots of sequins. Here is a glimpse of the ladies who were very very shiny. Some of the dresses are in the running for worst dressed.
I think I have a style crush on Laverne Cox because she kills it every year. McKenzie Westmore and Susan Kelechi Watson also looked beautiful.
Next-up the ladies wearing sheers: These I am listing in the order of preference starting with the best. Michelle P., you never age (hate you) and you looked very beautiful in your sheer black dress. At the opposite end of the spectrum, you have embellishment gone crazy.
I really thought the ladies that wore sheer did it well this year but I think Michelle Pfeiffer looked AMAZING!!! The woman never ages.
Next category is the women who went for the BRIGHT colors. I need shades as some of these were too vibrant for me. I will also confess that I had no idea who some of these ladies are so I didn’t even list their names as it means nothing to me and I will refer to them in their colors. The woman wearing green was swamped by her dress. It was way too much draping and weirdness. Jane Fonda opted for her usual form-fitting dress and a wig with bangs and a pony. The critics hated her dress but I thought it was okay – nothing to go nuts about. Viola looked good in peach and her make-up looked great. The lady in bright yellow was in West World and her yellow dress had some unique ruching at the top on the sleeves but the bottom with all the slits was blah. Edie Falco looked very good in her cute red dress.
The next category are women who opted for the deep-V neckline. I am always in a state of awe when I see ladies who have that much confidence in double-sided tape and I also have to say, some of them should have elected to wear a dress with a bit more fabric.
Next up, the couples:
The Ladies of Big Little Lies:
The ladies of the Handmaid’s Tale:
Women who wore pants:
Next, I give you the mixed bag of dresses that didn’t fit nicely into any of my categories but they were all too good to leave out. The first group of 4 I really liked:
Finally, those that just got it wrong. Very, very wrong:
Well, that’s it for this year. My choice for best dressed? In reviewing all the photos I think 2 rose to the top as they were elegant and sophisticated:
